Q. CO-59コードとは何？ [2003-11.26] (2006-06.06)
A. CO-59コード（六社協定新聞社用）は、
日本の６つの新聞社によって1959年に決められたもので、
コード表は「漢テレファックス符号及び文字配列表」です。

「ETL文字データベース」の中では、
「印刷漢字データベースETL2」だけで使われています。
Q. 「常用手書き」と「自由手書き」の違いは？ [1993-10.08]
A. 「ETL文字データベース」
のデータ収集時、
文字筆記者に見本文字を見せたものが「常用手書き」、
見本文字を見せなかったものが「自由手書き」としています。
ただし、文字の形を見せないと、
書く場所の指定が難しい場合（ETL1の片仮名）があり、
その区別はあまり厳密ではありません。
「常用手書き」用の収集用紙は、文字記入枠の上部に見本文字を印刷してあります。
各文字サンプルに対する正解コードを付加し易くするためです。

The CO-59 code (Six Newspapers agreement code in Japan) was decided
by six Japanese newspapers in 1959.
Its jpeg file is e2code.jpg.
We have a code converter
'co59-euc'
from CO-59 to EUC
in a set of utilities.
You can download it at
co59-euc.txt.
It is used only in
"Machine-printed Kanji character database ETL2"
of "ETL character databases".
Q. What is the difference between "Hand-printed" and "Hand-written" ?

As gathering image samples of "ETL character databases",
"Hand-printed" characters are filled in with specimens of character categories.
"Hand-written" characters are filled in without specimens of character categories.
